Ioana Bordea creates contemporary jewelry through an intuitive, hands-on process. Guided by an architectural sense of proportion, volume and material, each piece begins with structure — then evolves through making. Forms are adjusted, softened and sometimes left deliberately imperfect, allowing the trace of the hand to remain visible. Created individually in her Zürich atelier, the work balances clarity with freedom, presence with wearability.
Trained in architecture, Ioana Bordea approaches jewelry with an instinct for proportion, volume, material and space. Yet her process begins where structure starts to loosen — in the direct relationship between hand and material.
She rarely begins with a fixed drawing. Instead, each piece evolves through making: forming, testing, adjusting, allowing metal and stone to suggest their own direction. A geometry may soften. A symmetry may shift. What begins as an intention is given enough freedom to become something unexpected.

For Ioana, the hand is not simply a tool of execution, but part of the thinking itself. This intuitive way of working gives each piece its particular balance — considered but not rigid, sculptural yet wearable, precise while retaining the trace of the hand.
After studying architecture, Ioana began her jewelry training in Romania at Assamblage – Contemporary Jewelry School in 2010, later continuing in Florence at Alchimia Contemporary Jewelry School and with Maestro Alessandro Dari. These experiences gave her the technical foundation from which her own visual language gradually emerged.
Today, her work brings together contemporary jewelry, intuitive making and tactile materials — exploring the space between structure and freedom.
Since 2024, Ioana lives and works in Zürich, where she creates each piece by hand in her atelier.
